Gantez Warrior

While it may be winter and temperatures are dipping below freezing in many parts of the country, for Orange County-based surf punks, Gantez Warrior, every day is summer and life truly is a beach. Now with the help of WOR Records, the upstart music label of the high-end surf-inspired clothier Warriors of Radness, the band are getting the opportunity to spread their infectious surf licks and good time vibes far and wide. The trio have been in the studio with Grammy-nominated producer Mickey Petralia (Beck, Peaches, John Cale, Flight of the Conchords) working on their debut 7-inch, the aptly titled “I Like To Surf,” which will be released in February followed by an EP in Spring 2011.

Formed in 2005 when they were all 13 years old, Gantez Warrior has matured from a band that first started by playing backyard parties to one of Orange County’s finest party starters and they are still several years shy of drinking age. However, their OC isn’t anything like the vapid Botox-laden wasteland depicted on “The O.C.” and “Laguna Beach,” instead it is grungy, unique and a bit seedy, just the way they like it. Smelling of salt and sunscreen and with a sound that melds surf rock ala The Ventures and Dick Dale with quirky punk-pop reminiscent of Oingo Boingo and The Dead Milkmen, Gantez Warrior are coming at you like a big swell. They are the soundtrack for dancing, surfing, positive fun, and getting people down to as little clothes as possible. If you can’t get to the beach, they will bring it to you.
