In Tina Berning and Michelangelo Di Battista’s collaboration project, FACE/project, the lines are blurred between fashion photography, drawing and painting. The project consists of more than 30 works by the two artists – Berning a painter, and Di Battista, a photographer. It is very rare that two artists can work together because artists have such strong, unwavering point of views that are a force to be reckoned with. But these two artists from the first time they met on the set of a photo shoot for VOGUE ITALIA in the summer of 2007, quickly realized each other’s talent and their great potential for creative collaboration. Di Battista’s photographs are beautifully “defaced” by Berning when she replaces half of the faces with bold brushstrokes and colors to form an amazing collision of different mediums, with each artist’s talent individually captured.
