Paper Products

This is a technology-driven world, moving further and further away from the printed word. Newspapers have multiple uses, other than for catching up on the news – teaching Fido to do his business in the appropriate spot, protecting glassware during a move to yet another apartment, and a DIY paper mache project. Queens-born urban artist Nick Georgiou has another use, a little more substantial than paper mache. He creates organic sculptures out of old newspapers by folding, tearing and layering the material, and then playfully deposits them in random locations around New York City. “Books and newspapers are becoming artifacts of the 21st century,” he explains. “My work is not only about the decline of the printed word in today’s society but its rebirth as art.” Keep an eye out for these little paper creatures lurking throughout the Big Apple.

Recyled art. Gotta love it.
